John Douglass The concept for my decorative hardware line arose when I was trying to find suitable curtain hardware for custom high-end draperies. It was possible to specify window treatments costing thousands of dollars using the riches fabrics, but when it came time to hang them on the wall, the only hardware I could find looked mediocre and out of scale, and the finishes available were fairly limited. I also wanted an alternative to heavy valances and silk tassel tie-backs in order to create a more contemporary and less fussy application while maintaining a formal and elegant appearance. To do this, I had to create my own hardware and finish it myself. This allowed me to achieve an expression of simplicity and richness that permits the drapes to flow in lines uncluttered by valances and tassels. Also, I could use simple, unpleated curtains and dress them up with nothing more than gilded finials and tie-backs for a more formal statement of simple elegance.
